Support
Nightfeed is iPhone only. To share it, your partner needs an iPhone too.
Write to me
Email feedback@nightfeed.app. I read every message myself and reply within a day.
The quickest way is Settings › Tell the developer in the app, or the Tell me link on the screen where it happened. It adds the app details I need to help (never names, notes or amounts), and See exactly what's sent shows you every word first.
Sharing with your partner
You both need an iPhone signed in to iCloud.
- On your iPhone, open Settings › Sharing › Share with your partner and send the invite by Messages.
- Your partner installs Nightfeed (during the beta, with the TestFlight link on the home page), then taps the link in Messages. They don't add the baby again.
- From then on you both see and log the same things, and every entry shows who logged it.
Grandparents and nannies can join the same way, if they have an iPhone. Shared entries count toward the iCloud storage of the person who started sharing.
To remove someone, tap ⋯ next to their name in Settings › Sharing, then Remove from family. To end it for everyone, use Stop sharing…. If someone shared with you, you'll see Leave Ada's family instead, with your baby's name. None of these delete anything from the family's log.
Fill in Your name under Settings › Sharing on each phone (for example "Mom", "Dad", "Grandma"), so it's clear who logged what.
Entries aren't showing on the other phone
Tap the sync icon at the top left of Today. It says what's going on in plain words, and what to do about it. The usual causes:
- One phone isn't signed in to iCloud, or Nightfeed isn't allowed to use iCloud. Check Settings › your name › iCloud in the iPhone's Settings app.
- No connection, or Low Power Mode. Opening Nightfeed makes it catch up.
- The iCloud storage of the person who started sharing is full. Nothing is lost: new entries stay on the phone and sync once there's space.
If it doesn't clear up in a few minutes, tap Sync looks wrong? Tell me on that sync screen and tell me what each phone shows. The report includes the iCloud error code, not your entries.
My partner has an Android phone
Sorry. Nightfeed is iPhone only and sharing needs an iPhone on both ends. There's no Android or web version, and I'm not planning one.
What does work: send them a text summary of the day. Tap the share button at the top right of Today (or Settings › Your data › Export › Family without an iPhone) and send it by Messages, WhatsApp or anything else. You can also export a spreadsheet for them (see Exporting).
Moving to a new iPhone
If you use iCloud (most people)
- Sign in to the same Apple Account on the new iPhone and make sure Nightfeed is allowed to use iCloud (Settings › your name › iCloud).
- Install Nightfeed and open it. Your children and entries come down from iCloud; the sync icon on Today shows when it's up to date. If you were sharing, the shared log comes back too.
- Keep the old iPhone until the new one shows everything.
Reminders and a few settings belong to each iPhone, so check Settings on the new one.
If you don't use iCloud (the sync status says "Not signed in")
Your entries aren't in iCloud, so move them yourself:
- On the old iPhone: Settings › Your data › Export › Full backup (JSON), then save it to Files or AirDrop it to the new iPhone.
- On the new iPhone: Settings › Your data › Restore from a backup and choose the file. You'll see what's in it before anything is added.
Moving everything with Apple's Quick Start, or restoring the new iPhone from a backup of the old one, also brings Nightfeed's data along.
Exporting and backups
Go to Settings › Your data › Export. It's free, always.
- Spreadsheet (CSV): one row per entry. Opens in Numbers, Excel and Google Sheets. Times include the time zone they were logged in, and amounts are in ml.
- Full backup (JSON): everything, including entries in Recently deleted. Nightfeed can restore it.
Then save it to Files, AirDrop it, or send it by Mail or Messages.
Nightfeed also saves a backup by itself once a day and keeps the latest 14, in Files › iCloud Drive › Nightfeed › Backups (or On My iPhone › Nightfeed › Backups without iCloud Drive). See them in Settings › Your data › Daily backups. Restore from a backup only adds entries that are missing; it never overwrites or removes anything.
Bringing history from another app
Right now Nightfeed can import a Nara export: Settings › Your data › Import from Nara shows how to get the file, and you see everything before it's added. Importing the same file twice never adds anything twice, and you can undo an import for 7 days.
Coming from a different app? Tell me which one. It helps me decide what to support next.
Deleting everything
I don't have your data, so this happens on your iPhone. Do it in this order:
- Stop sharing. Settings › Sharing › Stop sharing… if you started it, or Leave … family (with your baby's name) if someone shared with you.
- Delete the daily backups. In the Files app, open iCloud Drive › Nightfeed › Backups (or On My iPhone › Nightfeed › Backups) and delete the files. Then empty them from Recently Deleted in Files.
- Delete the app. Touch and hold Nightfeed on the Home Screen, then Remove App › Delete App. This removes everything stored on this iPhone.
- Delete the iCloud copy. In the iPhone's Settings app, go to your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage (just Storage on some iOS versions), tap Nightfeed, then Delete Data.
Do the same on your partner's iPhone if they should lose their copy too; their daily backups include the shared log. Files you exported or sent somewhere else aren't touched.
Just want to remove one entry? Delete it, and it waits in Recently deleted (in History, or Settings › Your data) for 30 days. Swipe it left there to delete it now. Sample data goes with Settings › Your data › Remove sample data.
Safe Mode
If Nightfeed can't open its database, it opens in Safe Mode rather than risk your entries. Nothing has been deleted or reset, and your entries are still on the iPhone.
This often fixes it:
- Swipe Nightfeed away in the app switcher, then open it again.
- If it still opens in Safe Mode, restart your iPhone.
- Make sure there's free space: Settings › General › iPhone Storage.
- If an update for Nightfeed is available, install it.
Still there? Tap Save a copy of your data to keep a .zip of the database in Files, then use Tell the developer on the same screen. The report has the error code, not your entries. The .zip does contain your entries; attach it only if you're comfortable, and I'll delete it once your problem is fixed.
Please don't delete the app while it's in Safe Mode. Anything that hasn't reached iCloud yet is only on this iPhone.
Reminders aren't arriving
- Open Settings › Reminders in Nightfeed. If it says notifications are off, tap Turn on in Settings.
- A Sleep Focus or Do Not Disturb silences reminders.
- Reminders are set on each iPhone, so your partner turns on their own.
Something's wrong: what to send
Use Tell the developer in the app if you can. It fills in the app version, iPhone model, sync status and the app's recent events, so you don't have to. Then tell me:
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- Roughly when it happened.
- Whether it happens on one iPhone or on both. For sync: what each phone shows, and when they last matched.
- A screenshot, if it helps. It may show names; only I will see it.
Each report has a number like #K7Q2XM. Mention it if you write again about the same thing.
If the app won't open at all, email feedback@nightfeed.app with your iPhone model, iOS version (Settings › General › About) and Nightfeed's version (shown in TestFlight or the App Store).
Testing with TestFlight? You can also take a screenshot and tap Share Beta Feedback.
Is it really free?
Logging is free, forever: every kind of entry, all your history, sharing, more than one child, reminders, import and export. There are no ads and no account. Your entries live on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. I don't have a server, so nothing can lock you out.
