Privacy policy
Effective 30 October 2026. This covers the Nightfeed iPhone app and this website.
The short version
- Nightfeed doesn't collect your data. There's no server, no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
- What you log stays on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. I can't see it.
- The only thing that ever reaches me is an email you decide to send, and you can read every word of it first.
1. Who I am
Nightfeed is made by one independent developer, the one named as the developer on Nightfeed's TestFlight and App Store pages. "I" and "me" on this page mean that developer. You can reach me at feedback@nightfeed.app.
2. What the app stores, and where
Nightfeed stores what you enter:
- Your children: name, color, birth date and due date, if you add them.
- Your entries: feeds (time, side, how long, amounts), diapers, sleep, and any of pumping, medicine (name and dose), temperature, growth and kinds of entry you create yourself, with any notes you write.
- The name you set under Settings › Sharing › Your name. It's saved with each entry you log, so your partner can see who logged it.
- Your settings, like units, appearance and reminders. These stay on that one iPhone.
- A short log of what the app itself did (for example "backup saved" or a sync error code). It never contains names, notes, amounts or anything you typed. It stays on your iPhone unless you send it to me in an email (see section 5).
On your iPhone. Everything is saved in the app's own storage on your iPhone first, so Nightfeed works without a connection.
In your iCloud. If your iPhone is signed in to iCloud, Nightfeed keeps a copy of your children and entries in your private iCloud database, using Apple's CloudKit. That's how it syncs and how your entries come back on a new iPhone. It's stored by Apple under your Apple Account, and Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy apply to it. App developers can't read their users' private iCloud data, so I can't see yours. If your iPhone isn't signed in to iCloud, everything stays on that iPhone only.
I don't have a copy of any of this, and I have no server to put one on.
3. Sharing with a partner
Sharing is off until you invite someone. When you do, Nightfeed uses Apple's iCloud sharing:
- Your family's log (your children and their entries) moves into a shared area of your iCloud. Only the people you invite can open it. It counts toward the iCloud storage of the person who started sharing.
- The people you invite can see and add entries, including who logged each one. They can see the names of the other people in the share, as Apple shows them (an Apple Account name, or an email address or phone number if there's no name).
- You can remove someone, or stop sharing, at any time. They stop seeing the log; nothing already logged is deleted from it. If someone leaves, the copy on their iPhone is removed.
- Each person's iPhone keeps its own daily backups (see the next section), and those include the shared log. Anything someone exported or backed up before they left stays with them.
4. Daily backups
Once a day Nightfeed saves a file with everything in it, including entries in Recently deleted, and keeps the latest 14. The files go to iCloud Drive › Nightfeed › Backups, or to On My iPhone › Nightfeed › Backups if iCloud Drive is off. They're ordinary files in the Files app: you can open, share or delete them. Files in iCloud Drive count toward your iCloud storage and stay there if you delete the app. I never receive them.
5. Emails to the developer
There's no server for feedback either. When you use Tell the developer, Suggest a feature, a Tell me link on a screen where something went wrong, or We're done tracking, the app writes an email that you send from your own email account to feedback@nightfeed.app. Nothing is sent until you send it. See exactly what's sent shows the whole email before it goes.
Always in the email
- Your message, and the category you picked.
- A short report number (like #K7Q2XM), which screen you started from, and the app's version.
- For We're done tracking: the reason you chose, if any, and the other app's name if you typed one.
- Like any email: your email address and the name on your email account.
If "Include app details" is on (it is unless you turn it off)
- How the app was installed (TestFlight or App Store), the iOS version and the iPhone model (for example "iPhone13,1", an iPhone 12 mini).
- Your language and region setting (like "en_US") and time zone (like "America/Chicago").
- Whether Nightfeed uses iCloud or this iPhone only; the sync status, when it last synced, and the last 10 iCloud sync events (what kind, your own or the shared log, when, whether it worked, any error code, and the random id iOS gives each event).
- Counts: how many entries of each kind (and how many are in Recently deleted), how many children (and archived children), how many family logs and how many are shared, how many timers are running, whether sample data is on, and how many days since you first opened the app.
- Settings: which kinds are shown, units, appearance, where "time since last feed" counts from, and what hour the day starts at.
- If the app opened in Safe Mode: the database error code.
- The app's last 40 events from the log described above, with file paths, ids and email addresses taken out.
The app details never include names, notes, amounts or anything you typed, other than your message. In Apple's Mail app the same details are also attached as a file called diagnostics.json. A screenshot is attached only if you add one, and a screenshot can show names that are on screen.
Here's what the end of a report looks like:
--
Report #K7Q2XM · Sync or sharing · from the sync status
Nightfeed 0.1.0 (1) · TestFlight · iOS 27.0 · iPhone13,1
Sync: Up to date · iCloud · 214 entries
Please keep the block below. It has no names, notes or amounts.

What happens to your email
- Mail to feedback@nightfeed.app is forwarded by Cloudflare's Email Routing service to my own mailbox, which is hosted by my email provider.
- I read it, reply, and use it to find and fix problems. To decide what to fix first, I count reports by topic, app version and error code. For that I keep a working copy of the report with your email address replaced by a one-way code.
- I don't add you to any list, I don't sell or share your email, and I don't use it for advertising.
- I keep emails as long as they help me support you and improve Nightfeed, and delete them within two years at the latest. Ask and I'll delete yours sooner.
- If you send me a file with your entries in it (for example the copy Safe Mode makes), I use it only to fix your problem and delete it afterwards.
6. Import, export and reminders
- Import and restore. Import from Nara and Restore from a backup only open the file you pick, and read it on your iPhone.
- Export. The spreadsheet (CSV), the full backup (JSON), today's summary text and Safe Mode's copy of the database only go where you send them with the share sheet, such as Files, AirDrop, Mail or Messages. After that, they're handled by wherever you sent them.
- Reminders. Reminders are notifications scheduled on your iPhone by iOS. Their text (for example "Ada: 3h since last feed") is written on your iPhone. Nothing goes through a server.
7. Permissions
- Notifications
- Asked only when you turn on a reminder. Reminders are off until you do.
- iCloud
- Uses the iCloud account your iPhone is already signed in to. There's no separate sign-in.
- Photos
- None. If you add a screenshot to an email, Apple's photo picker gives the app only the picture you choose.
- Files
- Only the files you pick, plus the app's own backup folder.
Nightfeed doesn't ask for your location, contacts, camera, microphone or health data.
8. What Nightfeed doesn't do
- No analytics, and no crash-reporting or advertising code. There's no third-party code in the app at all.
- No tracking across other apps or websites, and no advertising identifier.
- No account and no server. The app makes no network connections of its own; the only traffic is Apple's iCloud sync.
- No selling or sharing of personal information, with anyone.
That's why Nightfeed's App Store privacy label says "Data Not Collected".
9. Apple's services
The App Store, TestFlight and iCloud are run by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Some of what Apple gives developers:
- If you've turned on Share With App Developers (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with me, in a form that Apple says doesn't identify you.
- If you test through TestFlight, Apple shares some testing information with me, such as crash reports, how many sessions a build has, and any feedback or screenshots you send through TestFlight. Apple's TestFlight screens explain what's shared.
I use these only to find and fix problems.
10. Children
Nightfeed is for parents and caregivers. It isn't meant to be used by children. It holds information about your child that you choose to enter, and that information stays on your devices and in your iCloud. I never receive it, and the app details in a feedback email never include it.
I don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If your feedback email or screenshot includes your child's name or health details, I use it only to answer you, and you can ask me to delete it at any time.
11. Deleting your data
I can't delete your entries for you, because I don't have them. Here's how you can:
- One entry: delete it, and it waits in Recently deleted for 30 days before it's removed for good. To remove it sooner, use Delete now there.
- Everything: the steps are on the support page under Deleting everything: stop sharing, delete the backup files, delete the app, then delete Nightfeed's data from iCloud in your iPhone's Settings.
- Your emails to me: write to feedback@nightfeed.app and I'll delete them.
12. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask for a copy, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. In practice the only personal information I hold is the emails you've sent me. Write to feedback@nightfeed.app and I'll answer within 30 days, usually within a day. I rely on your request (and my legitimate interest in answering it and fixing the app) to handle your emails. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
13. This website
nightfeed.app has no cookies, no analytics, no scripts, and no fonts or images from anywhere else. It's hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. I don't use that to identify anyone.
14. Changes and contact
If this policy changes, I'll post the new version here with a new date and say what changed at the top. If Nightfeed ever needs to collect anything new, the app will ask you first.
